AMERICAN INDIAN MODEL SCHOOLS

2013-2014
APPLICATION
Who can apply to AIM Schools?

AIM Schools is nonsectarian in its enrollment and admissions policies. We do not charge tuition. Enrollment is open to all students who wish to apply for Kindergarten through eighth grade without regard to actual or perceived disability, gender, nationality, race or ethnicity, religion, and sexual orientation. The only admission requirement is that students wishing to attend AIM Schools must follow the school’s admission procedures with respect to completing and submitting applications, enrollment forms and documents by the announced deadlines.

How do I apply?
AIM Schools will accept 2013 - 2014 school year registration forms from September 17, 2012 - January 11, 2013. All registration forms must be submitted to the school’s office. Incomplete registration forms will not be processed.
Subject to the capacity of the school, AIM Schools admits all students who submit a completed registration form by the January 11, 2013 deadline. Registration forms can be obtained online at www.aimschools.org or by visiting the school office.
How does the lottery work?
If the number of students who apply to attend AIM Schools within each grade level by the application deadline exceeds the school’s capacity, attendance, except for existing students, will be determined by a public random drawing for each grade level conducted in advance of the start of summer school. This year, the public lottery will be held on January 26, 2013 at AIPCS II, 171 12th Street, Oakland CA. Families of applicants participating in the public lottery will be notified via mail by January16, 2013.

Preference in the public random drawing will be provided in the following order of declining priority:

1. Siblings of currently enrolled students
2. Students residing within the boundaries of Oakland Unified School District
3. All other students who wish to attend AIM Schools

To determine the ordering of grade level lotteries, each grade level requiring a lottery will be placed on a card and then randomly selected. The order of selection will be the order of the lotteries. For each grade level, the names of students who are participating in the lottery will be placed on cards and then randomly selected for admission.

In the event that 2 or more siblings are participating in the lottery together, selection of one sibling will imply enrollment of the other sibling(s), pending availability. If space in the sibling’s particular grade level is not available, he or she will be placed at the top of the waitlist in the order that cards are drawn.
At the conclusion of the public lottery, all students who were not granted admission due to capacity will be given the option to put their name on a wait list according to their draw in the public random drawing. Notification of admission or placement on the waitlist will be mailed by February 15, 2013 to all students who submitted complete registrations by the deadline.
My child is on the wait list - now what?
As space becomes available at the school, seats will be offered to applicants in the order of placement on the wait list. AIM Schools will attempt to reach families at the phone numbers provided on the registration form. AIM Schools will also mail a letter to the home address provided on the registration form. If AIM Schools is unable to contact the family or there is not a timely response to the letter, the space will be given to another student and the original student’s name will be removed from the wait list.

The wait list is only valid for one school year. Students who are not admitted and who wish to enroll for the 2014 - 2015 school year must reapply when 2014 - 2015 registration forms become available.

I missed the January 11th registration deadline -- is it too late to apply?
AIM Schools will continue to accept registration forms beyond the deadline and throughout the school year. If space is available, applicants will be admitted. If space is not available, applicants will be placed on a wait list in the order that the office receives the completed registration forms. No preference will be given to students who apply beyond the deadline. Students who submit registration forms after the deadline will receive notification of admission or placement on the wait list within thirty calendar days.
Supplemental Enrollment Information
When students receive notification of admission or placement on the wait list, students will also receive a Supplemental Enrollment Information packet. Students must complete and submit the Supplemental Enrollment Information packet by March 22, 2013 in order to maintain their placement on the school’s enrollment list or wait list. Failure to return complete Supplemental Enrollment Information packets by the required deadline may result in removal of the students’ name from the enrollment list or wait list.
