American Indian Public Charter School II (Grades K-8) has the highest score of any middle school in Oakland. AIPCS II is ranked first with an API of 981. The students exceeded the standards set forth by the No Child Left Behind Act each year. Also, 78% of the students are socio-economically disadvantaged, and 99% of the students are minorities.

The mission of the MAA's American Mathematics Competitions is to increase interest in mathematics and to develop and enhance problem solving skills through competition. The AMC 8 is a 25-question multiple-choice contest for middle-school students in grades 8 and below. The material covered is the middle school mathematics curriculum. Many problems are designed to challenge students and to offer problem solving experiences beyond those provided in most junior high school mathematics classes.
